Why We Built Tunza

Meet Lili. One night, pregnant and bleeding, she rushed to her primary health center in Addis Ababa. The nurse referred her to a hospital for an ultrasound—but the machine was broken. Another referral. Another hospital. Another wait. By day's end, Lili had wasted hours traveling between facilities, growing more anxious with each referral, still untreated, still at risk.
This is the reality for millions. According to the WHO, 92% of global maternal deaths occur in low- and lower-middle-income countries — most from preventable causes. We built Tunza so Lili—and every patient—gets the referral coordination they deserve. That's why we're starting where her story began: Ethiopia.
Lili's experience is not unique — it is a systems failure that affects millions. Tunza exists to give health systems the tools to ensure no patient is lost in transition: real-time referral tracking, automated national reporting, and outcome visibility across the public-private divide.

OUR VALUES
What We Stand For
These aren't words on a wall. They're the principles that guide every feature we build, every hire we make, and every decision we take.
Patient-First
Every decision we make starts with one question: does this help patients receive better care? If the answer isn't yes, we don't build it.
How we live this:
- SMS notifications because not everyone has smartphones
- Offline-first because connectivity isn't guaranteed
- Multi-language support because care should be understood
Equity
Healthcare access shouldn't depend on geography or wealth. We serve rural clinics with the same dedication as urban hospitals.
How we live this:
- Sliding-scale pricing for under-resourced facilities
- Same support quality for all facilities, regardless of size
- Designed for low-bandwidth, low-resource environments
Reliability
When a patient's life depends on a referral reaching the right hospital, our system must work. Every time. No exceptions.
How we live this:
- 99%+ platform uptime commitment
- Offline mode ensures referrals are never lost
- 24-hour support response time guarantee

YOUR VOICE MATTERS
We Solve the Problems of Your Health Facility
Tunza isn't built in isolation. Twice a year, we survey our users to understand what's working, what's not, and what you need next.
Our product roadmap is shaped by the clinicians, administrators, and patients who use Tunza every day. Your feedback directly influences what we build.
Twice-Yearly Surveys
Semesterly, we ask: What's your biggest win? What frustrates you? What should we build next?
Transparent Roadmap
We share what we're building and why. “Based on your feedback, we're adding X” is how we communicate.
Community Input
Our most engaged users help us prioritize features and test new functionality before release.
